Breaking Barriers to Physical Activity in Balsall Heath & Sparkhill

St Paul’s Community Development Trust was proud to be one of four local anchor organisations working with Active Birmingham to explore the barriers and opportunities for physical activity in our community.

Through connecting with youth, schools, sports clubs and community groups, we helped create spaces where young people could try new activities, from urban sports to roller skating. Thanks to micro-grants, many local settings were able to deliver their own sports programmes – building skills, confidence and community spirit.

One legacy that continues to thrive is roller skating in Balsall Heath – a great example of how small ideas can spark lasting change. This is ongoing work, and we’re excited to keep strengthening opportunities for young people and families to be active.
