Ramadan and Shrove Tuesday

As we approach Ramadan and Shrove Tuesday, we’re proud to stand with our diverse community in Balsall Heath and across Birmingham in recognising moments of reflection, generosity and togetherness.

For many, Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, prayer and charity – a time that reminds us of compassion, community and supporting those most in need. Nationally, over 3.9 million Muslims in the UK observe Ramadan, with Birmingham home to one of the largest Muslim communities in Europe.

At the same time, Shrove Tuesday marks a day of preparation and reflection ahead of Lent – traditionally a moment to gather, share food and focus on renewal.

In a city where many families continue to face rising living costs and inequality, our staff and volunteers show up daily with compassion, inclusion and practical support — whether that’s through our nursery (100% school readiness), School, youth programmes, Family Hubs or community wellbeing spaces and our Farm.

This Ramadan and Shrove Tuesday, we celebrate the richness of our community and recommit to building a fairer and brighter future — together.
