St Paul’s Proud to Host 40-Year Celebration of Theatre in Education

St Paul’s Community Trust was proud to be the venue host for a landmark celebration marking 40 years of theatre in education by Language Alive! and The Play House, held on Saturday 17 January at the Venture Centre.

The event celebrated an extraordinary legacy that began at St Paul’s, when founder Steve Ball first took on the role of “Big Bert,” supporting language development for children in Balsall Heath’s primary schools. With early backing from St Paul’s leadership, the work grew into an internationally recognised theatre-in-education movement, reaching over one million children and young people since 1986. Today, The Play House continues to bring learning to life for schools across Birmingham and beyond.
We were delighted to host this special anniversary and to celebrate a story so deeply rooted in our community and our shared commitment to education, creativity, and opportunity.
