Volunteers’ Week

It’s Volunteers’ Week – a national celebration of the millions of people who give their time for free to support charities, community groups, schools, sports clubs, and local services.
It’s an opportunity to say thank you, share the impact volunteers make, and encourage others to get involved.
From giving a few hours to volunteering regularly, every contribution matters.
- 14.2 million people in the UK have formally volunteered at least once a month
- 25 million people in the UK volunteered informally at least once in the year
- Volunteering added £4.6 billion in productivity gains to the UK economy in 2024
The above figures are provided by Royal Voluntary Service and NCVO.
Why do people volunteer?
People volunteer for all sorts of reasons. Some want to use their skills to support a cause they care about. Others are looking to learn something new, gain experience, or build confidence. For many, volunteering is also about connection—meeting people, making friends, and feeling part of the local community.
How volunteering can benefit you
Alongside making a difference to others, volunteering can be good for our wellbeing. It can reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation, support personal development, and create a sense of purpose. Many people also find that helping others boosts mood and self-esteem—because doing something meaningful feels rewarding.
What our volunteers have said about volunteering
“I also wanted to say a big thank you for having me on to volunteer. This has given me a great confidence boost and helped me with the recent job interview that I attended.”
“The year that I spent volunteering on the farm was one of the best years of my life – a truly priceless experience.”
