JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Youth Worker
HOURS: 15 hours per week
SALARY: £12.08 per hour
CONTRACT: 12 months in first instance – possibility of extension (Subject to a 6 month Probationary Period)
All staff employed by the Trust have an individual responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young people and vulnerable adults that they are responsible for, or come into contact with.
JOB PURPOSE
To deliver a youth work offer including universal and targeted delivery within the Balsall Heath locality providing service and activities for young people, working in a co-productive way.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- To create a safe and welcoming environment for young people, building positive relationships with them that includes outreach, detached youth work and youth participation.
- Support the implementation of workshops, group discussions, and recreational activities aimed at promoting personal development and social skills.
- To assist with the planning, delivery and evaluation of the needs-led youth work programmes and activities.
- To engage young people through the building of relationships and provide strong role modelling of positive adult behaviours.
- To work cooperatively with young people in the co-production of the services to ensure a Youth Voice is heard and established within Balsall Heath to help shape and inform wider community initiatives.
- To be responsive to individual needs of the young people and identify when intervention is required from Early Help services and Children’s Trust, reporting to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Work in partnership with families and other key people in the young person’s life, as well as with professionals from other organisations involved with young people such as social care, health, police, education, youth offending teams and local authorities, in order to build a strong support network.
- Contribute to the development of the service through team meetings utilising feedback to continuously adapt and enhance program delivery and content.
- To work with allocated budgets and manage resources ensuring the safety, cleanliness and care of the environment and equipment, performing all the necessary risk assessment checks.
- To ensure the equality of opportunity for all the children having an awareness of different cultures and faith as well as making necessary adjustments for disabled young people and those who have additional needs.
- To contribute and support with fundraising activities and community events that help maintain services and supports future development of new services to the community.
- To promote the service using social media and with other forms of marketing and communications.
- Post holders will be expected to regularly undertake evening and weekend work to meet the needs of communities and young people
- To participate in the Trust’s performance management scheme.
- To undertake personal professional development and training as appropriate.
- To participate in the supervision process including the Probationary Review.
- To undertake any other duties commensurate with the role and responsibilities of the post as agreed with your Line Manager.
- To be familiar with and uphold the policies and procedures of the Trust especially those relating to Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection and Safeguarding.

Experience of working with young people in a youth work setting including outreach working.
Experience of working effectively to achieve targets and meet deadlines. Experience of delivering activities that engage young people positively.
